Tenor Horn

Principal Horn

John Warner

John Warner

John began playing at junior school in Portchester at the age of six. After a few years changing from the Trumpet to Euphonium he chose the Tenor Horn. He was a member of the Hampshire County Youth Band for ten years and played in many National competitions. In 2002 the band was crowned BBC Radio 2 Youth Band of the Year.

John then went to study the Tenor Horn at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tuition of Owen Farr and Richard Marshall. John has played for a number of Championship Section bands including a long spell with Sovereign Brass winning the Midlands Championship title, playing in the first English Nationals and the finals of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall.

He left Birmingham and moved to South Africa before returning to the south coast and joining Ocean Brass as Principal Horn.

2nd Horn

Maryanne Cook

Maryanne Cook

Maryanne started playing with Ocean Brass in July 2007, her first gig being at Christchurch bandstand. Then Maryanne played the baritone, but quickly moved to a vacant position on the BBb bass where she stayed until the end of 2013. Maryanne has now returned to play baritone.

Outside of banding, Maryanne enjoy walks in the countryside, "as long as they're not too long", and golf. She's working on her handicap of 36, "so still some way to go before an appearance at the LPGA!"
